Organic certification is a verification process that ensures agricultural products are grown, processed and handled according to established organic standards. Certified organic farming avoids the routine use of synthetic pesticides, chemical fertilisers, genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and other prohibited substances, while promoting environmentally responsible and sustainable agricultural practices.
In India, organic products are certified under two Government-recognised systems: the National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP) and the Participatory Guarantee System (PGS-India).

The National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP) is administered by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), Government of India.
